Intel has a new name for their H-series Laptop Processors & they now call them the G-series. However, there is a reason behind this new renaming policy & that is the new kind of Graphical Horsepower it is packing. So, the new G-series Laptop Processors from Intel now have integrated Graphics from AMD calls the Vega Graphics for Mobile.

Now, there are two configurations of these new G-series Processors. These are,

  • 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon™ RX Vega M GL Graphics (65W total package power)
  • 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon™ RX Vega M GH Graphics (100W total package power), which features an unlocked configuration

So, maybe it’s better to have a Specification overview for all the new CPUs.

These new G-series Processors are Graphically much more powerful compared to the 7th Gen Core Processors. The way Intel achieved this is by integrating the CPU, the GPU & HBM2 VRAM in a Single Processor. We have already explained this in detail in one of our previous articles. I’m linking that article below in case you need that.

http://geeksnipper.com/intels-8th-gen-h-series-laptop-core-processors-will-inbuilt-amd-radeon-graphics-gddr5-vram/7165/

These new CPUs are targeted towards Thin & Light devices for both Gaming & Professional platforms. The High-power CPU with the new Vega GPUs can handle Gaming, Content Creation and even things like Virtual & Mixed Reality.

However, these new G-series CPUs are still using the older Kaby Lake architecture. So, these CPUs belong to Kabylake-G series & if you remember, the 8th Gen U-series is also using the Kabylake Architecture so, those are actually Kabylake-R which means that only the 8th Gen Desktop CPUs are using the Coffelake Architecture as of now. Kinda disappointing cause Coffelake is so much better compared to Kabylake.

Another disappointing Factor is the fabrication Process Technology. So, these G-series Processors came out in 2018 & they are still using the 14nm Process Technology. We were expecting the 10nm Process Technology in early 2018 but that’s just not the case.

So, the main improvements have been done in terms of Graphical Performance. The 100W TDP based i7-8709G & i7-8809G have the Higher-end Vega M GH series Graphics which similar to something like a Max-Q GTX1060 (Thanks to Linus of Linus Tech Tips for this info). That kinda power in a Slim Form Factor is really appreciated. But, I hope Manufacturers have the access to fit in even higher powered NVIDIA GPUs for High-end Gaming Laptops. Otherwise, it would be a huge bottleneck in many situations.

New laptops powered by these new 8th Gen G-series Processors will be unveiled in the CES2018 that is going on right now. To stay updated on that, stay Tuned to our Website, Facebook & Twitter.

Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained – Do You Really Need It in Your Laptop?

Whenever you need to hook an External GPU to your Laptop, the only option you have is a Thunderbolt 3 port. It can also be used for hooking 4K 60Hz Monitors to your device. But, not all the Laptops have that port & there are some laptops that have the port but, cannot take the full advantage of it. Though, there are also some laptops that are able to take the complete advantage of the port or ports to provide a close-to-maximum bandwidth. So, the question comes forward, “Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained – Do you really need it in your Laptop ?”. Well, keep on reading…

Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained – Do You Really Need It in Your Laptop?

We are talking about the usability. So, let’s talk about the supported protocols now.  Thunderbolt 3 had introduced for the first time, Thunderbolt via. USB Type-C port. With the USB Type-C Port, the Thunderbolt 3 connection supports a total of three protocols. The list includes USB 3.1 Protocol, PCIe Express Protocol, Displayport Protocol & of-course the Thunderbolt Protocol.

So, basically what it means is that the Thunderbolt 3 port can function as a regular USB 3.1 Port & a Displayport but, it’s now possible with a USB Type-C connector instead of a regular Displayport that the older Thunderbolt 1 & Thunderbolt 2 connections used to work on. Also, Thunderbolt 3 connection is a lot faster compared to its predecessors. Let’s compare the Bandwidth generation by generation with the chart below.

Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained - Bandwidth-Comparison
Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained – Bandwidth-Comparison

So, as you can see in the chart, Thunderbolt bandwidth has been bumped up to double with every generation. With Thunderbolt 1 with we had 10 Gigabits Per Second speeds while Thunderbolt 2 supported up to 20 Gigabits & Thunderbolt 3 now supports up to 40 Gigabits of bandwidth. So, that’s a huge bump up & this brought the possibilities of connecting Two external 4K Monitors & even an External GPU. So, if you want to connect Two external 4K Monitors to your laptop for purposes like content creation you may want to consider dedicated Thunderbolt 3 ports (there can be Maximum 2 of them). But, remember you can also connect a single 4K 60Hz Monitor via. an HDMI 2.0 port.

Thunderbolt 3 Connections

Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained - Connections
Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained – Connections

Now, Thunderbolt 3 has another big function & that is allowing external desktop GPUs to connect to a Laptop. I feel this is a reason many people who want to use Ultrabooks and play games,  look for Thunderbolt 3 port when they buy their laptops. If that’s your goal, you can definitely take advantage of the Thunderbolt 3 port. But, there are a few things to keep in mind.

To maintain their thinness, Ultrabooks generally use Processors with around 15W TDP that are not ideal for long-term gaming sessions. Also, some Laptops use only 2 lanes of PCIe instead of 4 on the Thunderbolt 3 Port. So, you’re not getting the Max bandwidth of 40 Gbps through that Thunderbolt 3 Port instead you’re getting (estimated) less than 20 Gbps. So, that puts the performance of the External GPU into a deep bottleneck.

Even, if your Laptop uses all 4-lanes of PCIe, you don’t get the complete bandwidth of 40 Gbps as some of the bandwidth gets occupied by other peripherals. So, even when you’re losing 10-15% of the performance of your External GPU. So, if you plan to game on your laptop with the full power of something like a GTX 1080 Ti, it’s just not gonna perform like it would on a dedicated desktop setup. This also applies even if you buy a Gaming Laptop with a lower end GPU & plan to game on an external desktop one.

Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained - Thunderbolt-3-DYN
Thunderbolt 3 Usability Explained – Thunderbolt-3-DYN

Advanced functionalities are always a plus. So, if you can get Thunderbolt 3 support on your Laptop then that’s great. But, make sure you’re not making compromises on your actual needs.

Thunderbolt 3 for Gaming Laptops

If Gaming is your main goal then I would not pick an Ultrabook with a Thunderbolt 3 connection for that. 15W i5 or i7 Ultrabooks don’t come cheap & the TDP is not ideal for gaming. So, the extra money that you’ll through at it & an External GPU with Enclosure, isn’t going to give you the performance you want. Even if you’re doing that in a Gaming laptop with a less powerful GPU, remember that you have to deal with the performance reduction. If you’re ok with that, then no problem.

But, for stuff like Content Creation where you might have a good CPU. But, you need 4K Monitors to hook or a more powerful GPU for completing your tasks. This will cost you a lot less compared to a new Laptop. The Thunderbolt 3 support can be a life saver.

Intel has announced that Thunderbolt 3 support will become royalty free from 2018. So, some Laptops that are using Intel’s 7th Gen Kabylake Processors that use the Thunderbolt 3 as one of their main USPs & also has a high price tag right now, will cut their prices a bit. So, you may think that it’s better to go for those laptops instead of getting the new & comparatively more expensive 8th Gen CPUs just because of the Thunderbolt 3 support. But, the performance difference between, Intel’s 7th and 8th gen CPUs are way too much to ignore. So, don’t buy the 7th Gen CPUs just for the Thunderbolt 3 port as you won’t be able to justify. But, if you can use Thunderbolt 3 & justify all your needs, you definitely need it in your Laptop.

The Yamaha Pacifica PAC 012 is one of the best value for money electric guitar. This guitar comes in different color options that are: Black, Metallic Dark Blue, and Metallic Red. The reason why it’s cheap because of the Agathis body, but the overall combination of the guitar helps to give the best tone.

During my test with the Yamaha Pacifica PAC 012 I found that the stock pickups aren’t that great, but when swiped with the EMG’s this guitar sounds killer.

4. Jackson JS11 Dinky – MTR 6

This electric guitar comes with 22 fret medium fret, whereas the high output Jackson stock pickup does the great work. This guitar comes with a volume knob & tone knob with 3-way switch. The basswood body gives this guitar a dark tone.

5. Schecter SGR C1

SCHECTER-SGR-C1-e1514060438420 Best Electrical Guitars in INR 10000 – INR 15000 price range

Schecter SGR C1 is another electric guitar for those who are into metal music. This is purely made for heavy distortion. The basswood body does the pretty good job with his dark tone for better distortion. It comes with 24 jumbo fret, with low neck profile for speed guitar playing.

What I strongly suggest is to change the pickup, but the stock pickup does the pretty good job. What cool in this guitar is the gothic cross at the 12th fret, which gives the metal look for this guitar?

So these were some of the best electric guitars that you could have for the price range from 10,000 to 15,000 INR. These guitars won’t be your last option as these guitars need some upgrade. All the guitars above need to change the switch controller & pickup for better output.

If you still have any doubt regarding this, you can feel free to ask in the comments below.

ASUS ZENBOOK UX430 DESIGN & BUILD QUALITY

The Zenbook UX430 has quite an eye-catching Design with a new kind of Glossy Material that ASUS calls the Nanoimprint Lithography Coating on the top. It looks like Glass but it isn’t & it’s a Transparent Glossy material instead to give an illusion of Glass. Yes, it would have been nice to see pure Glass but, it would make the top surface breakable. However, the coating can get scratches if you’re curious.

ASUS claims that there is a 14-inch Display sitting in a 13-inch Chassis & I can tell by looking at the actual device that, it is kinda true. It’s quite similar in size to the Zenbook UX360 that was a 13-inch device.

The hinge is well tuned & has a nice tension to it. You need to use two hands to open the laptop. So, it’s not one hand open-able. I don’t have any issues with that but, if you had this question, now you have your answer.

The Keyboard has a nice layout. The 1.4mm Key Travel feels Okay for an Ultrabook, better than what I expected in this kind of form factor so, it’s a nice Keyboard to type on. The keys also lit up White with three levels of Brightness to customize.

The Trackpad is pretty good. It uses Windows Precision Drivers & coupled with the Glass Surface, it has great tracking. It’s nice to see ASUS using Windows Precision Trackpads in more & more of their devices. The Button clicks are a little bit shallow and depending what kind of Trackpad Clicks are you used to, you may or may not like it.

ASUS ZENBOOK UX430 Review – Design and Build Quality continued…

Talking about the Fingerprint Scanner, it’s quite fast & snappy. I also found this one to be a little bit more accurate compared to the one on the Vivobook S15. Overall, I had a good experience while signing in using Windows Hello. It’s a good Scanner overall.

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review - 155319 SRES
ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – 155319 SRES

The Chassis is quite Solid with very minimal flex to it on the Keyboard area. Back is rock is solid however. If you want to dig inside, there are about Nine Screws on the back. Overall it’s a Solid Build Quality & it’s not a cheap device so, good Build Quality is what we expect.

Talking about Ports, it does come with a decent amount of Ports for an Ultrabook. So, on the left, we have a USB 3.1 Type-A Port, a Mini HDMI Port, a 3.5 mm Headphone & Microphone Combo Jack & a USB 3.1 Type-C port that also integrates the DisplayPort Support.

On the Right, we have a USB 2.0 Type-A Port & a SD Card slot & that’s literally all the ports available on board.

There is no Full Size HDMI or Full Size Ethernet Ports but, ASUS includes adapters for Mini HDMI to Full Size HDMI & USB Type-A to Ethernet in the box.

THE DISPLAY of ASUS ZENBOOK UX430

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review 153634
ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review 153634

The Zenbook UX430 is rocking a 14″ IPS LCD Display & coupled with those Minimalistic Bezels it’s nice to look at. Color Accuracy is also great on this Laptop. So, the IPS Panel covers around 100% of the sRGB Color Gamut. Though, I don’t know the Adobe RGB values but, the Panel actually looks effectively better for things like Content Creation. So, if you’re into something like Photo or Video Editing, the Display on the UX430 is a far better choice compared to the Display on the Vivobook S15 that we reviewed earlier.

The Brightness is also a lot more compared to the Vivobook S15. So, again ASUS does not mention any Nits rating on their website but, according to me, it’s 300+ nits on the Zenbook UX430. This is also an Anti Glare panel so reflections should not be an issue if you want to use it outdoors.

The Display again ships with that warmer color tone that we’re seeing in all the new ASUS laptops. But, in this case, as the Color Accuracy is quite good, it’s not a huge deal. If you want though, there is an included software called ASUS Splendid where you can adjust the display to a cooler color tone. In my case, I dragged the settings to the coolest color tone available.

ASUS ZENBOOK UX430 PERFORMANCE

The Zenbook UX430UN has been refreshed with the latest 8th-gen Intel Core U-Series CPUs. These CPUs come with 4 Physical Cores & 8 Threads. Our review unit is running an i7-8550U with 8 Gigabytes of DDR4 RAM.

If you’re curious about Benchmarks, here is Geekbench Comparison with the GL553VE that was running the i7-7700HQ.

Coming to the real-life performance, the system feels Quick & Snappy. The i7-8550U is slightly faster in Single-core performance. However, compared to the old 7th Gen CPUs that only have Two cores, the new 8th Gen CPUs ship with Four cores instead. So, where the 8550U strikes are Multi-core Performance. That segment has seen a huge performance increase compared to the last gen 7500U.

So, people who want to do better Multi-core stuff like Photo or Video Editing in a form factor like this, the 8550U delivers a significantly better performance over its predecessor. If you’re curious about Video Editing speeds, then here is a chart to give you a rough idea about 4K 30FPS Video Editing.

However, this system is more suited for 1080P Edits compared to 4K being a 15W CPU. So, if you want to do 4K Edits, I’ll recommend at least a 45W Quad-core CPU.

Here another differentiator was the SSD speed. The UX430 comes with a 512 Gig M.2 SATA3 SSD. The Read Speeds are damn close to the Vivobook S15’s 128 Gig SSD but, the Write Speeds are a lot faster on this drive by about 300 MBPS so, Video Editing has slightly faster render times on this UX430. However, if you want to do Video Editing, I’ll recommend getting the 16GB RAM version instead.

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review - 16GB RAM
ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – 16GB RAM

The Fan Noise comes up pretty often while performing even moderately demanding tasks & while editing Videos or playing Games, it’s a bit loud. Not terrible & many people don’t care about stuff like that but, for some people it’s can be a bit annoying. So, that’s another thing you need to keep in mind.

There is a NVIDIA MX150 GPU for delivering the Graphical Horsepower & it has 2 Gigabytes of GDDR5 VRAM alongside. The performance of the MX150 is somewhere between the GTX 950M & GTX 960M.

Here is a 3DMark Comparison between the UX430UN & the ROG G501VW that are running the MX150 & GTX 960M respectively.

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – Performance Section –  Continued

If you want to game on it, you can play most of the popular games at 1080P 60 frames per second if you are playing on medium settings. At High settings, the average frame rate can fall down somewhere at 30 to 45 frames per second depending on the game.

More demanding games will run with comparatively less frame rates. So, the UX430 is designed for professionals but, it can handle lightweight gaming. But, don’t pick this laptop if your main intention is to play games on it.

Finally, it all comes down to Battery Life & this is a big reason why many people buy Laptops with U-series CPUs inside. So, ASUS claims around 9 hours of Battery Life out from that 50 Whrs Cell & by performing regular stuff like Web Browsing, Taking Notes, Watching some Youtube Videos etc. & I was getting around 7.5-8 hours of Battery Life out of it. So, it goes pretty close to the claims & the Battery life depends on what you’re doing on the device.

ASUS ZENBOOK UX430 AUDIO

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review - Audio
ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – Audio

There are two 1.5W Bottom Firing Speakers located on the Sides of the Laptop. Quality is better than I expected. Normally most of the Windows Ultrabook speakers are not so good but, these ones are pretty good. The clarity is nice, the Distortion is very minimal at higher volumes.

There is a little Bass in the speakers that I was not expecting. The Mids & Lows are nice & the Highs are kinda Okay. The loudness could have been higher but, that’s the nature of Thin & Light Ultrabooks. I kinda liked the speakers overall but, I would have appreciated a little bit more loudness while preserving the good quality.

The Audio Output via. Earphones are Good as expected & you can switch the audio in the ASUS AudioWizerd for various scenarios like Music, Movies etc.

The Verdict of ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review - Final Verdict
ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – Final Verdict

The Zenbook UX430UN starts around ₹95990 in India (for the i7-8550U Model with 8GB RAM) & ₹81990 (for the i5-8250U Model with 8GB RAM & Integrated Graphics) and around $1099 in the US (for the i7-8550U Model with 16GB RAM).

So, this not a super cheap device to get & at this price point is the UX430UN a worthy purchase? Let’s have a look at the Pros & Cons.

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – Pros

  • Good Build Quality for the price
  • Slim & Light form factor
  • The Quadcore i7-8550U gives a nice performance increase compared to the 7500U Dual Core CPU in Multi-core tasks
  • The new MX150 GPU is a nice improvement over the last gen GTX 940MX & it’s actually better than the 950M as well
  • The Fingerprint Sensor is fast & accurate
  • Good Battery life
  • Good Audio Output

ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review – Cons

  • The 15W U-series CPUs do struggle while stressing the CPU for an extended period of time & it drops to its base clock speeds later on
  • Fan Noise is loud at a well audible level while doing tasks like Video Editing & Gaming
  • The 720 Webcam could have been improved
  • There is no Thunderbolt 3 support which many users prefer in Ultrabooks

So according to me, if you’re looking for a Professional Grade laptop that is not super expensive, comes with capable & balanced hardware, has good battery life & also comes in a thin & light form factor while not compromising in build quality, the Zenbook UX430 is a good option.

If you want to bang on games on it, look for something that is more suited for gaming. Yes, those laptops won’t be as thin, light & professional looking as the UX430 but, those will have powerful 45W CPUs & better GPUs that comes handy in terms of gaming. I won’t pick this laptop if my main intention is to play games.

But, for people who want to use it for Professional Office Stuff, Photo Editing, Light Video Editing, Media Consumption & stuff like that, the UX430UN is a good option.

Okay, so that concludes our ASUS Zenbook UX430UN Review with the refreshed 8th Gen Kabylake-R CPU. If you have any questions, be sure to let us know in the comments section below & we’ll catch you with another Laptop review very soon.

Let’s talk about the things that haven’t changed first which are mostly found in the design area. So, in both cases, the design looks kinda the same from the outside like last year. The Zenbook Pro 15 has it’s chassis made, completely out of Aluminium with that signature concentric design of ASUS while the XPS 15 9570 has Aluminium at the top & the bottom with Carbon Fiber in the keyboard area. The Display bezels are still way thinner in the XPS 15 which allows the laptop to have a smaller physical size compared to the Zenbook Pro.

CPU, RAM & Storage:

Okay, Now there are several things that have changed. First are the CPUs. Just as I mentioned in the beginning of this article, both of these laptops have been updated with 8th gen Intel Core H-series CPUs. So, the Dell XPS 15 now comes with either a Core i7-8750H or a Core i9-8950HK option & both of these CPUs have Hexacore configurations. In the other hand the Zenbook Pro 15 comes with either an i7-8750H or an i9-8950HK as well bit, it adds an additional option with a Core i5-8300H which is a Quadcore CPU. In the RAM & Storage segment, the Zenbook Pro 15 can go up to 16 GB RAM & 1TB of M.2 NVMe SSD storage while the XPS 15 can go all the way up to 32 GH RAM for the 4K, i9 model with up to 2TB of M.2 NVMe SSD Storage.

The GPUs:

Next, let’s talk about the GPU. Both the devices spot a GTX 1050 Ti with 4 Gigabytes of GDDR5 VRAM but, the XPS 15 runs a Max-Q variant of the GPU. In both cases creative professionals should not have many issues as both of these laptops shall be able to deliver very close results but, when it comes to raw graphical horsepower, the Zenbook Pro 15 will have a slight edge.

The Displays:

The Displays are also very similar with either a 15.6 inch, 60 Hz, 1080P IPS panel that covers 100% of the sRGB color space or a 4K IPS panel that covers 100% of the Adobe RGB color space in both of the devices. So, again in terms of Display quality, both the devices have almost identical displays with great accuracy. However, the 4K option is definitely more color accurate compared to the 1080P one.

The Ports:

Let’s come to the ports now. Both of these laptops spot all the major ports. However. the Zenbook Pro 15 spots two Thunderbolt 3 ports while the XPS 15 spots only one. In both cases the posts have access to all 4-lanes of PCI-e so, external GPU connections should be no problem. On the other hand, the XPS 15 spots a full-size SD card slot while the Zenbook Pro 15 spots a Micro-sd slot which may turn down many creative professionals as most of them are using full-size SD cards anyway. The USB 3.1 Type-A ports are another thing that is different. Both of the devices come with two USB 3.1 ports but, for the Zenbook Pro, these ports are Gen-2 while for the XPS these are Gen-1.

The Trackpads:

Now, let’s talk about the trackpads & this is a very important part of this comparison. So, both of the devices use Windows Precision Trackpads with Glass Surface so, the tracking should be smooth & accurate in both cases. But, the trackpad on the Zenbook Pro 15 UX580 (also on the Zenbook Pro 14) has something that the XPS 15 or any other laptop does not have s of now. I’m talking about a 5.5 inch 1920×1080 IPS Display built right into the Trackpad.

ASUS has named this new trackpad approach as the “ScreenPad” & it can do a lot of things like, functioning as an extension or replication to your main Display or functioning as a toolbar for certain apps (the Microsoft Office Apps are already supported) & even more like acting as a Calculator, Music Player or showing up your Calender etc. The Screenpad SDK will be open to the developers so, we can expect a lot more apps being compatible with the ScreenPad in near future. So, ASUS definitely took a huge lead in this segment.

Other Differences

Other differences are minor but, some of them need to be mentioned here. The Battery is smaller in the Zenbook Pro 15 (71 Wh) compared to the XPS 15 (97 Whrs), the Webcam on the Zenbook Pro is VGA (480P) while the XPS 15 9570 spots a HD (720P) Webcam & the Bluetooth version of the Zenbook Pro 15 is newer (v5.0) compared to the XPS 15 9570 (v4.2).

The Dell XPS 15 starts at $1499 (i7, 16GB, 1080P) & go all the way up to $2549 (i9, 32GB, 4K) (there is a $999 variant available but, it comes with way lower specs so, it hasn’t been considered in this comparison). However, we don’t know the exact pricing details for the Zenbook Pro 15 UX580 as of now but, we can expect it to be quite similar (or maybe slightly cheaper) to the XPS 15 in terms of pricing.

Which One Should You Go For?

Until last year, if we had to recommend one of the predecessors of these laptops, the XPS 15 always had that slight edge in almost everything. Maybe the design was better on the Zenbook. This year the equation has completely changed & though the core internals is kinda the same, things like the ScreenPad, the full-fat GTX 1050 Ti, the Bluetooth 5.0 makes the Zenbook Pro 15 UX580 a much more desired option this year & it’s quite like ASUS did it better from everyone else this year. However, the Dell XPS 15 9570 does have a Bigger Battery, a Higher-res Webcam, a full-size SD Card slot & thinner Bezels. You can go for it if you want a better battery life or better Video Call quality or an SD card slot or all of these but, otherwise, the Zenbook Pro 15 UX580 seems to be the better option for everyone else out there.

Okay, that wraps up our comparison between the Zenbook Pro 15 UX580 & the Dell XPS 15 9570. If you have any questions then please drop them in the comment section below & we’ll definitely try to answer them.

ASUS FX503 vs. ASUS ROG GL503 Strix – Is the Cheaper FX503 Right For You?

ASUS has recently launched the successors to their 502 series gaming laptops & the new series carries the upgraded 503 signature. They have actually announced a ton of different models to choose from this year.  In the ASUS ROG GL503, we have the Strix, Hero & Scar Editions and we also have the ASUS FX503.

Asus FX503 Gaming Laptop Review
Asus Rog FX503 Gaming Laptop Review

So, last year when we did that FX553 & GL553 comparison like article, we saw that many of you were actually interested to know the differences between the two as the specification list was quite similar & the price difference between the two was a significant reason for many people to go for the cheaper FX553 instead of going for a GL553.

This year the conditions are the same again. The FX503 is significantly cheaper compared to the GL503 Strix Edition & the specifications are quite similar. So we thought, making this comparison can benefit some of you guys to take a better purchase decision in case you’re having difficulty to choose. If you’re not aware though, the FX503 will cost around 79990 INR while the GL503 Strix will cost around 92990 INR for the i7-7700HQ Base Variants. The FX503 also comes with the i5-7300HQ starting at 69990 INR.

So, let’s have a specification comparison between the GL503 Strix Edition & the FX503 so, the major differences show up.

The specification comparison chart has probably cleared a lot of your doubts already. Now, let us figure out the drawbacks of the FX503 over the GL503 a bit deeper.

Display comparison between ASUS FX503 and GL503

The first major differentiator between these two models is the Display. The FX503 has a 15.6 inch 1080P TN Panel while the GL503 has an IPS Panel. So, the IPS Panel GL503 is way more color accurate & has better viewing angles compared to the TN Panel on the FX503. So, in case you want to do some Color Accurate work in your Laptop alongside playing Games on it, the GL503 is the one you should be looking at. But, in case you are not doing color accurate work, the Display of the FX503 should be enough.

Build Quality of ASUS FX503 versus GL503

Both of these Laptops have good build quality but, the GL503 is better compared to the FX503. The design Language on the GL503 has that new 2017 ROG look with that improved Metal-Plastic chassis. The FX503 is built well but, it isn’t as good as the GL503.

Ports in ASUS FX503 versus GL503

Another concern is the Ports. The FX503 is missing a USB C Port, a Mini Display Port & a USB 2.0 Port compared to the GL503. Now, the USB C port on the GL503 is not Thunderbolt 3 capable so, if you want to hook an External GPU, you cannot do that on any of these laptops. So, it’s not a huge reason to buy the GL503 or dump the FX503 just because of that USB C port. However, if you want all those extra ports, the GL503 is a better option. Otherwise, you can have a look at the FX503.

How to get Laptop Hacks, more details click here

Keyboard

The Keyboard is also a little bit different between the two. The GL503 can do 4-zone RGB Lighting in its keyboard while the FX503 has Red Lighting that you cannot change. So, if you want RGB Lighting in your Keyboard, the FX503 does not have that. The GL503 also have extra Volume Control keys that are not present in the FX503.

Thermals

The last thing is Thermals. The GL series, in general, have better thermal management compared to the FX series. So, we are expecting similar scenarios for the GL503 & the FX503. But, we have to test out this one when we get our hands on to make a 100% confirmation.

Should You Get The Cheaper ASUS FX503 Instead Of Getting The More Highly Priced ASUS Rog GL503?

This depends on your particular needs. If you have already read the content above carefully, you probably already know but, if you need an opinion in general, remember to figure out the purpose of why you are getting the laptop.

If you want to Play Games & also do some color accurate work like Photo or Video editing on your laptop, the GL503 is the one to go for. The higher price of the GL503 is because of the Better Build Quality & most importantly the Significantly Better Display. So, if you are someone who wants that, go for the GL503.

However, if you’re a person who just wants to pick a GTX1050 laptop for Playing Games & do just basic day-to-day stuff, the FX503 is enough for you. The gaming performance between the two is almost identical, so, if Gaming is your only big priority, save that extra money & go for the FX503 instead.

Something you need to be aware of, the GTX1050 isn’t going to give you 60 FPS+ frame rates at 1080P in AAA titles at High Graphics settings so, if you are looking for something like that. this is not the price point you should be looking at. Get something that has at least a GTX1060 inside. There is a GTX1060 Model of the GL503 Strix but, it’s significantly more expensive at 13990 INR. So, if that’s what you’re looking for & you have the budget then go for that one instead.

Ok, that’s it for this comparison. If you still have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments section below. Also, let us know if you want comparisons of specific devices that may benefit you in your next purchase & we’ll try to cover that up.

Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017

When we think gaming laptops, all that comes in our mind are some heavy bodies, monster performance & extreme heating. Well, that era is definitely not over but, this is 2017 & we have come a long way of evolution. Gaming laptops are now way more powerful & they also have much-improved heat management systems. In CES 2017, we saw some amazing gaming laptops and we try to put this list of Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017 for you.

Razer’s Project Valerie – Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017

ProjValerrie - Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017
ProjValerrie – Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017

This may not be the most powerful gaming laptop of CES 2017, but it surely is the most innovative concept. Thumbs up to Razer who made it possible. The Project Valerie has three 17.3 inch 4K screens equipped with the body of a Razer Blade Pro. All three displays work together as a single wide-angle monitor & that translates to a resolution of 11520 x 2160 or we can say a total resolution of 12K! It also includes support for NVIDIA’s G-sync alongside with its Surround View.

About the internals, they must be similar to the Razer Blade Pro as it’s the same body. But, in case Razer made any changes to it, we don’t really know. So, specs include an i7-6700HQ, an 8GB NVIDIA GTX 1080 & 32 Gigabytes of DDR4 RAM. You still can’t buy it anytime soon but, hope Razer can make this 12K laptop gaming common as fast as possible.

ASUS ROG GX800VH – Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017

ASUS ROG GX800VH - Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017
ASUS ROG GX800VH – Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017

This is the most powerful Laptop from CES that we picked up for our list. It is an 18-inch gaming laptop with a 4k Display that has support for NVIDIA’s G-sync. Well, it all might look familiar to last years GX800 but, this time ASUS has updated the CPU. ASUS has updated from the Skylake 6820HK to a 7th Gen Kabylake 7820HK that can now be overclocked upto 4.3GHz. It also spots two GTX 1080‘s with SLI that is capable of providing 4K gaming at amazing frame rates. With this kind of performance, you get great heating absolutely free.

ASUS has really impressed us with their liquid cooling solution that comes in the form of an external cooling dock that is easy to connect & disconnect. The best thing about this dock is that if you don’t need it, you can simply keep it at home & carry the laptop only. Anyway, even after having this much hardware inside, the Laptop manages to maintain a body weight of less than 6KGs. We still don’t know what the prices are going to be in various regions. But this will definitely be the most expensive laptop that ASUS will make to date.

Lenovo Legion Y720 – Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017 !

This is the top model that Lenovo has announced under their new brand Legion that is made specifically for gaming. This is a 15.6-inch laptop with 4K resolution (Optional). On the inside, it has a Kabylake i7-7700HQ equipped with GTX 1060. We are not sure about the storage options as they may vary by region. But, it’ll spot PCIe SSD along with a SATA HDD. What is impressive though, this laptop is the first one in the world to spot Dolby Atmos & it also has built-in support for Xbox One Wireless controller. Keeping in mind that this laptop has fewer specs, this is going to be way cheaper at 1399 USD & will be available from April 2017.

It may be noted that all the laptops we mentioned in Best Gaming Laptops From CES 2017, include all the important ports along with Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Audio Technica ATH-C101 Review
Audio Technica ATH-C101 Review

When it comes to entry level earphones, the market is abuzz with hundreds of products. Almost all audiophile brands have one or more watered down versions of their high-end products released to cash in on their brand name. But as a consumer who’s on the lookout for a good deal. Should you really fall for the gimmickry or go with what seems the logical choice?

Audio Technica ATH-C101 Review – First Impressions

We here at GeekSnipper have tried to answer this question one at a time, by reviewing for you the Audio-Technica ATH-C101 Cube Earphones. The Cube is the cheapest pair of Audio-Techinica earphones available, and the cost cutting is quite apparent as soon as you get the package in your hand. No ear-buds, no converter, no pouch, no string winder or any other accessories.

Audio Technica ATH-C101 Design & Features

What you do get out of the box is the Audio Technica ATH-C101 Cube Earphones itself. A pretty decent pair of earphones that are designed to appeal more to the fashion conscious than to the audiophile. Incorporating a unique CUBE design on the end of the earbud. This feature makes the earbud easier to adjust and also makes it stiffer and more durable. During testing, we found that the earphones are quite light on the ears and don’t feel uncomfortable even after hours of usage.

Audio Technica ATH-C101 Design and Features
Audio Technica ATH-C101 Design and Features

The L shaped, gold plated connector is another great feature to have on an entry-level earphone. Ensures that it’ll last you a good number of years. The cable is thick and feels durable. Although it tangles a lot. Recommended ideally for commutes and casual listening, the Audio-Technica ATH C101 Cube Earphones feature a 15.8mm diameter outer housing but a standard 13.5mm diameter driver. Hence there’s no compromise on audio quality or loudness.

Audio Technica ATH-C101 Sound

Audio Technica ATH-C101 Sound
Audio Technica ATH-C101 Sound

Now as the name suggests Audio-Technica delivers where it matters the most, audio quality. Best described as standard. The response was flat over various types of music, with no distortion or unnatural loudness. The clarity of sound shone through which is a major plus point of this unit, every instrument and note was audible and clear. What was lacking, of course, was bass, Even after boosting bass response using DSP manager software, the result was lackluster. However, this was on expected lines.

The verdict on Audio Technica ATH-C101

The Audio Technica ATH-C101 can be considered a serious contender when it comes to the entry level earphones market. Ticking all the check boxes when it comes to durability, design, personalization options and sound quality. But as mentioned earlier, the lack of bass and lack of accessories may be a turn off for some especially when we consider the hefty price tag of Rs 699 (albeit you can find a better deal online).

Chinese Beats Bluetooth Speaker BE-13 Review

Chinese Beats Bluetooth Speaker BE-13: I just came across this replica of the Beats Bluetooth Speaker. This not the original Beats, but a Chinese product. This Bluetooth Mini Speaker is a high performing with low-frequency dynamics. You can play music with TF card, audio input, and also through PCs and Laptop. This Bluetooth speaker is really cheap. It cost me around INR: 1,400 (Hike in price with a better-upgraded version) i.e. USD $9 (discontinued).

They have made it very simple. This Bluetooth Speaker measures a width of 10.39mm and 2.16mm in height respectively. It has a smooth texture and is easy to use. You can play mp3 with the following 3 connectivity options:

  1. DC 5V/USB
  2. TF
  3. Aux (3.5 mm jack)

This wireless speaker can run for 4-5 hours. When the battery get’s low you will realize it by its decrease in the volume. The only thing that I didn’t like was, the material quality it is built with. The material used to build this speaker is quite cheap. But, on the context of the price range it’s affordable and worth buying.

Sound: (7.5/10)

Talking about speakers, Sound is what people are looking for. This Bluetooth Wireless Speaker is good in sound. When you increase the volume full up, you start getting a disturbing sound and it is because of the Chinese quality speaker in it.

The speaker installed is of a cheap quality, but it really gives you a good output. One of the glitches that cannot be ignored is the speaker being with high treble. But, looking at the overall quality, material, sound and price, I would personally say yes to this.
